Profender

About Profender

Profender is a topical allwormer range for cats, developed by Elanco (formerly Bayer Animal Health). Applied directly to the skin at the back of the neck, it treats intestinal worms — including roundworms, hookworms, and tapeworms — without the stress of oral dosing. The range covers cats from 0.5kg through to 8kg, with colour-coded pipettes by weight bracket.

Profender's active ingredients, emodepside and praziquantel, work together to treat the most common intestinal parasites in cats in a single application. Because it's spot-on rather than oral, it sidesteps the challenge of medicating cats that resist tablets — a practical advantage that vets and cat owners frequently cite. The formulation is absorbed through the skin and does not require the cat to ingest anything.

Profender is widely recommended by Australian veterinarians for cats that are difficult to tablet, or as a more convenient alternative to traditional oral wormers. It's available across multiple weight ranges and sold at most major Australian pet retailers, making it straightforward to keep up with a regular worming schedule.
