The formula is built around imidacloprid and permethrin as its two active ingredients. Imidacloprid kills fleas on contact within one hour, without needing them to bite first, and kills flea larvae in the pet's environment. Permethrin kills and repels paralysis ticks for up to two weeks, handles brown dog and bush ticks, and repels mosquitoes, sandflies and stable flies that can spread disease. The spot-on is water-resistant once dry, so it keeps working through swimming and bathing. **Important: Advantix is for dogs only — permethrin is highly toxic to cats.**
